GIVEAWAY! The Junior Fine Bedding Company [Closed]

**** THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED! ****

I’ve got a fantastic giveaway for you today from the folks at The Fine Bedding Company – one of the UK’s leading bedding brands. Their Junior range is suitable for children from 12 months, and has everything you’d need and expect to give your little ones the same lovely cosy sleeping experience that you enjoy. Or at least, the lovely cosy sleeping experience you would enjoy if it weren’t for the little rascals getting you up five times in the night… *deep sigh*

The Junior range from the Fine Bedding Company features a number of bedding essentials including a range of mattress protectors. Now I don’t know about you, but Daphne’s mattress protector has certainly earned its keep over the past two years… I’ll spare you the details, but it was definitely one of my most sensible purchases!

There are two mattress protectors available in the range. The Anti-allergy Mattress Protector was specially designed for babies and toddlers with sensitive skin and its hypo-allergenic material features a dust mite barrier to protect against allergic reactions. As well as being totally waterproof, it has a silky soft 100% cotton cover.

There’s also a Protector Pad with peach soft cover to help guard against night time accidents. It’s easily transportable and can also double up as a handy play mat. Available in cot, cotbed and single bed sizes, both products are machine washable.

I have a eight mattress protection prizes (a combination of Mattress Protectors and Protector Pads) to give away – four in the cot bed size and four in the cot size.

To enter, simply leave a comment below stating how many hours’ sleep you had last night (be honest!) and I’ll pick the winners at random. Good luck!

Sunday Shop: Perfect Prints

I haven’t really shouted much about it, but you may have spotted the Shop section of the blog (in fact, I know some of you have because I have seen the stats!). In here, you’ll find some of my top kids’ room picks, and best of all you can buy them directly from the site, without having to go off to each retailer directly. In case you’re wondering how this works, it’s thanks to a nifty little plugin called Showroom. It doesn’t cost you anything extra but I do get a (teeny) percentage from each sale made through this site.

Anyway, as it’s Sunday, also known in my house as Online Shopping Day, I thought it might be fun to do a little round up post of my favourite prints available through my store.

I’m slightly obsessed with prints! I have loads up in my office at home – I’ve tried to create a gallery wall of sorts, and I usually prefer them to ‘proper’ artwork. I do remember going a bit mad in my old flat with what my friend Amy calls ‘bossy art’ – graphic posters telling you to smile more often etc etc. I’ve moved on from the slogans though, and am now loving anything and everything simple, clear and striking. And there’s just so much wonderful artwork for children’s rooms out there…

Right, that’s enough from me. A picture speaks a thousand words and all that… Onto the shopping – enjoy – and do let me know which is your favourite! Mine is the very lovely Rifle Paper Co’s Noah’s Ark print, as pictured above…

Mo turtle playhouse by Hulki

Here’s something I’ve learnt over the last few months: almost as popular as plywood in the kids’ furniture department is, believe it or not, heavy-duty cardboard. It makes sense, if you think about it – it’s eco-friendly, fully recyclable, sturdy and little ones can have free rein to draw all over it without fear of reprisals.

My friend and all round super-stylist-mum Poppy Norton sent me the details for Hulki’s amazing animal-themed playhouses, made from this wonder material, and I just had to feature them. On that note, I am loving all the bits and bobs I am being sent since launching this blog – please keep them coming people!

Suitable for kids aged from 3 to 7, the Hulki playhouses cross the border into toys-ville, but I’ve decided I don’t care anymore. There are too many amazing toys out there not to share them from time to time on the blog too (on that note, I’ve got the most beautiful play kitchen coming up – stay tuned!).

But back to the Hulki playhouses. My favourite is definitely this cool turtle with its cute cut-out windows – the geometric design of the cardboard inside is actually something rather beautiful.

There’s also a whale design (named Anton, because, of course a whale would be called Anton). Made in the Netherlands, and both available from Toyella. A fab alternative to a wendy house or teepee.

Sleepy Monsters bedlinen

Another week, more bedlinen! But this time for slightly bigger kids. Big thanks to my friend and fellow interiors journo Kate from Mad About The House for telling me about Sleepy Monsters – a new, super playful range of reversible children’s bedding.

Ideas like this are why I love doing this blog! Designed to encourage little ones to make their own bed, this bedlinen has a different design on each side – one side features a peacefully sleeping monster, the other the most bright-eyed and bushy-tailed monster you ever did see, ready for the day.

The brainchild of husband and wife team Jo and Phil, Sleepy Monsters has been tested on their own son. Four year old Bow now rushes to his room every evening in order to prepare his monster for sleep, and flips the duvet to wake him each morning. Made from 100% cotton, the duvet has a handy concealed zip fastening, meaning even little hands can change it easily.

There are three colourways available: bold monochrome, bright red and vibrant teal, but the teal gets my vote. Best of all, the company promises to donate 10% of all its profits to Unicef, to help the children in Calais. Find out more here>

Animal-print cot bedlinen

I’m kind of annoyed with whoever invented baby/toddler sleeping bags. Because let’s face it, they are such a brilliant solution to a massive problem, and Daphne’s been using a sleeping bag ever since she gave up being swaddled (read: wriggled her way out of the muslin and wailed furiously). But but but… it means I have to wait just a little bit longer until I can indulge in the previously unexplored field of TODDLER BEDLINEN.

And oh my, what a choice, what a selection out there. I’ve been doing some research as Daphne is now using a pillow so I needed something to cover it in – and here are three of my absolute favourite designs. All of which had animal-prints on them. I can sense a series of blog posts coming on, because there were some bloomin’ lovely non-animal print ones out there too.

I can’t wait until she’s kicked the sleeping bag aside and I can properly tuck her in under one of these adorable sets…

OK confession time, I did actually order this set for Daphne. As I said, she now has a little pillow in her cot (to help her work out which way up to lie – believe it or not once we removed her Sleepyhead she got very confused with how she was meant to position herself in bed!) so I’ve been using the pillowcase from this set, and the duvet cover is folded up in the airing cupboard waiting for her to get bigger. I love the fact it has a different design on each side, and the soft grey and white would fit in nicely with any nursery scheme. It’s by Farg & Form, from Nubie.

For those who love colour… Daphne’s favourite animals are elephants, and there’s something wonderfully retro and 60s about this design by London-based designer Rachel Powell. Plus the teal shade is perfect – bright, cheerful and fun, just what you want in a kids’ room.

Last but not least, bunnies again – sorry – but they’re BRIGHT ORANGE. Neon, almost. Can’t go wrong with a bit of neon about the place – I especially love the matching sheet here. I would totally have chosen this bedlinen if it wasn’t for the fact we have some quite busy wallpaper up in Daphne’s room already, and it might be a bit of a pattern overload. But this is just gorgeous, isn’t it? And it’s from Lulu & Nat.
